How to Prepare for Bed Bug Treatment

Prep matters almost as much as the treatment itself — skipping it is one of the most common reasons a first treatment doesn't fully clear an infestation.

Wash and heat-dry bedding and clothing

Bed bugs and their eggs die at high heat. Wash all bedding, curtains, and clothing from the affected room on the hottest safe setting, then run them through a full dryer cycle, and seal them in clean bags until treatment is complete.

Declutter, but don't move items to other rooms

Clear floors, closets, and under-bed areas so the treatment can reach every hiding spot — but avoid carrying clutter, bedding, or furniture into unaffected rooms, since that's one of the easiest ways to spread bed bugs to a new area.

Vacuum thoroughly before we arrive

Vacuum mattress seams, baseboards, and furniture crevices, then seal and dispose of the vacuum bag or empty the canister into a sealed bag outside the home.

Leave furniture and mattresses in place

Don't disassemble bed frames or move mattresses out of the room before your appointment — our technicians need access to these in their normal position to treat effectively.

Plan for people and pets to be out during treatment

Depending on the treatment method used, you may need to leave the home for a set period. We'll confirm exact timing and any re-entry instructions when we schedule your visit.
