German cockroaches favor warm, humid spaces near food and water — kitchens, behind appliances, under sinks — and Dunreith's a humid continental climate with milder winters than northern Indiana, given the region's more southern position along the Ohio River keeps them active most of the year. American cockroaches, larger and reddish-brown, prefer basements, drains, and utility rooms. A blend of established hill-country homes and newer suburban growth tied to the region's university and manufacturing base.
